Diplomatic Relations

Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, as the first Governor General of Pakistan, made a special effort to establish diplomatic relations with Muslim countries.  Strong diplomatic relations between Turkey and Pakistan further strengthened the solidarity of the people of the two countries and the old religious, cultural and historical ties.  Coincidentally, the first ambassadors of the two countries were esteemed personalities.  Mr. C. Kamal Bailey, Ambassador of Turkey to Pakistan, was not only an active member of the "One Turk" movement but also an internationally renowned poet.  Pakistan's first ambassador to Turkey, Mian Bashir Ahmed, was a member of the Muslim League and a scholar.

After the establishment of Pakistan, the Turks began to include Allama Iqbal in his philosophy and poetry.  Prof. Ali Nahadat Ryan translated part of Kalam Iqbal into Turkish.  Similarly, a book on Iqbal and Maulana Roi was published by the Pakistani embassy in Turkey.  Research on Iqbal is underway at the Iqbaliyat Academy in Konya, the largest province in central Anatolia.  There are also Pakistan Studies items at Istanbul and Ankara Universities.
